317LMn alloy is a molybdenum-based austenitic stainless steel with strong resistance to chemical erosion. In addition, compared with conventional stainless steel, 317Mn alloy has higher ductility, stress fracture resistance, and higher compressive strength at high temperatures. It is a low carbon grade or L grade, which has anti-sensitization properties during welding and heat treatment. M and n refer to higher molybdenum and nickel contents respectively. The molybdenum and nickel contents make it highly resistant to pitting and crevice corrosion, especially in high-temperature solutions containing acids, chlorides, and sulfur compounds. The nitrogen content increases its strength. 317LMn (S31726) stainless steel alloy has the highest water corrosion resistance among all standard grades of stainless steel, and is also designed for harsh operating environments (such as flue gas desulfurization systems).
317LMn austenitic stainless steel physical and chemical properties:
1. 317LMn is more resistant to atmospheric and other mild corrosion than conventional chromium-nickel stainless steels. Generally speaking, environments that are not corrosive to 18Cr-8ni steel will not cause corrosion to alloys containing molybdenum.
2. 317LMn stainless steel is more resistant to sulfuric acid solutions than conventional chromium-nickel stainless steels. Its corrosion resistance increases with the increase of the molybdenum content of the alloy. These alloys can withstand sulfuric acid concentrations up to 5% in environments with temperatures up to 120°F (49°C). In environments with temperatures below 100°F (38°C), these alloys have excellent corrosion resistance and can withstand corrosion from more concentrated solutions.
3. Oxidation resistance of 317LMn stainless steel: Chromium-nickel-molybdenum steels have excellent oxidation resistance and low scale formation rates in ordinary atmospheres at temperatures not exceeding 1600-1650°F (871-899°C).
4. Hardening: 317LMn cannot be hardened by heat treatment for these grades.
5. 317LMn stainless steel processing: The physical and mechanical properties of 317LMn stainless steel are similar to those of conventional austenitic stainless steel, so it can be processed in the same way as alloys 304 and 316L.
6. 317LMn stainless steel welding: It is recommended to use superalloy materials that can maintain corrosion resistance under welding conditions as fillers. It is recommended to use filler metals with a molybdenum content of not less than 6% to weld alloy 317L, and filler metals with a molybdenum content of not less than 8% (such as alloy 625) to weld 317LMn. In applications where superalloy materials cannot be used as filler metals or where post-weld annealing or pickling is not possible, the severity of the operating environment must be carefully considered to determine whether gas welding joints (welds made without fillers) are feasible. Post-weld annealing and pickling of gas-welded 317LMn and alloy 317L stainless steel can achieve the best corrosion resistance. 1. Petroleum and petrochemical equipment, such as reactors in petrochemical equipment.
2. Flue gas desulfurization equipment in power plants, the main use parts are: absorption tower body, flue, baffle plate, internal parts, spray system, etc.
4. Seawater treatment equipment, seawater heat exchangers, papermaking industry equipment, pharmaceutical industry and other chemical equipment, pressure vessels, food equipment, etc.
